Classroom module 1 (most of day) – Control of pear sucker
- Biology and lifecycle of the pest and key natural enemies
- How to estimate pear sucker numbers in orchards
- Practical methods of estimating key natural enemy numbers
- How to respond to the different life stages of the pest
- Advice on control to gradually reduce populations of the pest in the long term
- Protocol and monitoring sheet for pear sucker and natural enemy monitoring
- Excel monitoring sheet and population chart
Field demonstration (1 hour) – Control of pear sucker
- Demonstrate monitoring technique
- Enable participants to practice monitoring whilst with entomologists
- One-to-one discussions on pear growers own situation
