Classroom module 1 (most of day) – Control of pear sucker

  • Biology and lifecycle of the pest and key natural enemies
  • How to estimate pear sucker numbers in orchards 
  • Practical methods of estimating key natural enemy numbers   
  • How to respond to the different life stages of the pest 
  • Advice on control to gradually reduce populations of the pest in the long term 
  • Protocol and monitoring sheet for pear sucker and natural enemy monitoring
  • Excel monitoring sheet and population chart

 

Field demonstration (1 hour) – Control of pear sucker

  • Demonstrate monitoring technique 
  • Enable participants to practice monitoring whilst with entomologists 
  • One-to-one discussions on pear growers own situation
